NOW MURCIA demands that the town planning regulations of the municipality be adapted to preserve the cultural heritage, thus ensuring that the surroundings of the monuments are not threatened by distorting elements.

With this objective, Now Murcia will take a motion to the Plenary on Thursday to request that the General Urban Plan of Murcia (PGOU) and its planning be adapted to BIC protection environments (Cultural Interest) delimited after approval of the General Plan (2001), something that has not been done despite the law's obligation.

The councilor Angeles Micol explains that "in the municipality of Murcia the protection environment of four BICs has been delimited after the approval of the PGOU.The protection of these environments is not included in the General Plan, which is what we now ask for from Murcia to be done as soon as possible ".

Micol points out that these four boundaries of BIC protection environments are firm, "so it is appropriate that the City Council comply with the provisions of Law 4/2007, Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia, and specifically the articles regarding Duties of cooperation and collaboration, Suspension and execution of interventions, Coordination with other public policies, Relationship with urban planning, Authorization of interventions on Cultural Interest, and Surroundings of Monuments.

"We can not allow that in the municipality we often have our monuments being boxed in," he says.

"To value the monuments and care for and preserve their environment, as well as the importance of heritage, has an impact on the creation of jobs and wealth, it is an enormous potential that we are not exploiting in our municipality as they have seen it and have done cities like Cartagena , and as from Now Murcia we ask that the City Council finally begin to do ".

The mayor details that among the distorting elements in the surroundings of the monuments there are electrical and telephone cables, billboards and other installations that cause that the Law 4/2007, of Cultural Heritage of the Region of Murcia regarding these environments.

The four BICs of the municipality that have been delimited their environment of protection after the approval of the PGOU (2001) are the weir of the Contraparada (decree of 2002), the castle of Los Garres (decree of 2004), castle of Tabala, in the Ramos (decree 2004), and the monastery of Los Jerónimos (decree of 2012).
