Murcia now proposes the creation of a municipal manual of good practices in gardening (24/07/2018)

NOW MURCIA proposes the creation of a Municipal Manual of Good Practices in Gardening, which should serve to facilitate and improve the performance of the City Council in this area and for citizens to have public access to the criteria and measures followed by the Park and Garden Service in the maintenance of green areas.

The municipal training will present a motion in the Plenary on Thursday in which demand the development and implementation of this Manual of Good Practices in Gardening, which should have for its drafting with the participation of institutions and organizations, professional associations and experts.

The document would be sent to all services and district boards and districts, and would be available on the municipal website, with the aim of being known by the citizens.

Councilor Alicia Morales emphasizes the importance of policies and strategies in gardening and urban trees, and raises the need "to conceive the city as an ecosystem."

A policy of green areas that for the spokeswoman of Now Murcia "is being chaotic in our town, with a disjointed series of announcements, presentations and initiatives that fail to provide the municipality with a true healthy habitat and in optimal conditions."

Morales points as the most recent episode of this "policy with very little sense of Councilor Guillén" the announcement of his council of the acquisition and planting of "thousands of Californian poppies" that "will grow for the first time in the gardens of Murcia," as published the Consistory itself a few days ago.

"To bring to our parks and gardens a strange species," he says, "not used until now, and which, as the City Council recognizes, 'replant themselves year after year, since they are implanted in the field', can produce the situation already caused in other places of Spain with this allochthonous and invasive species ".

Faced with this confusion, Alicia Morales raises the need to address and improve issues such as the introduction of ecological criteria in urban gardening;

the conservation of the local autochthonous flora;

increase the shadow areas;

improve tree replacement plans;

reduce and avoid the loss and deterioration of urban trees, and coordinate actions in parks and municipal gardens.

"Correct planning of green infrastructures and equipment, supervision and control of large trees and historical specimens, attention to the green spaces of neighborhoods and districts, all with transparency and considering the demands and requests of municipal boards and of all its members, would contribute to improve something basic in our municipality, such as a healthy environment and green areas with adequate quality and maintenance, "says the mayor.

Morales recalls that the group Now Murcia has been presenting these years various initiatives to the Plenary Session of the City Council in the field of trees and parks and gardens, "because we understand that it is a fundamental issue of building a healthy and sustainable municipality, and we believe There are still many things to do and improve. "
