The project 'Reset: Mar Menor' grants two scholarships to artists from England and Austria (19/07/2018)

Two artists from England and Austria are the beneficiaries of the first scholarship call 'Reset Mar Menor 2018'.

These aids are part of the 'Reset: Mar Menor' project.

Imaginary laboratory for a landscape in crisis', in charge of a transdisciplinary group formed by UMU artists and scientists.

A total of 47 projects have been submitted to this call, whose main objective has been to promote artistic creation as a tool to understand and work on the problem of the Mar Menor.

The proposals have come from Italy, Sweden, Chile and other points of Europe and the United States and from areas as diverse as science, technology or ecology.

The jury has decided that one of the scholarships be for Paul Sermon, Charlotte Gould and Jeremiah Ambrose with 'Out of sight, out of mind'.

The main objective of his proposal is to create an interactive video experience of 360 ° of the Mar Menor that manifests the anthropocene effects in this natural landscape.

The second aid has been granted to Christina Stadlbauer thanks to her proposal 'Pinna Nobilis and the mitigation of species extinction by direct assistance';

an artistic intervention that will deal with climate change, the loss of habitat and the extinction of species.

The scholarships, with a value of more than 3000 euros each, cover the production of the works and include ten days of stay next to the Mar Menor in which artists can start the development of their works and will have the collaboration of the researchers of the project.

The beneficiaries of the aid will present their projects in a sample scheduled for March 2019.

The jury of the scholarships was formed by Pau Alsina, director of the magazine Artnodes;

Clara Boj, director of the project 'Reset: Mar Menor.

Karin Ohlenschläger, critic and curator of exhibitions specializing in contemporary art and new technologies;

Ángel Pérez-Ruzafa, Professor of Ecology at the UMU and member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Mar Menor;

and Christa Sommerer, pioneer artist in the field of interactive art and evolutionary software.
