Dozens of people gather in front of the General Directorate of Transport to demand the reinstatement of Line 61 (11/07/2018)

Neighbors and neighbors of the districts of San José de la Montaña, El Palmar, San Ginés and Aljucer have concentrated this morning in front of the General Directorate of Transport of the Autonomous Community, in the Plaza Santoña, to demand the restitution of the service of the Line 61, eliminated in 2012.

The protesters have publicly requested a meeting with the Autonomous Community and the City Council to unblock the situation in a short period of time.

As they recalled, at the proposal of the four opposition groups and unanimously, the Consistory promised in May to finance 200,000 euros from the 2018 budget for the restoration of the service, "but we have met with the refusal of the regional executive."

"So that we do not get sick from one office to another, what we want, out of respect for our neighbors, is a coordinated solution between both executives," added Francisco Guirao, one of the Platform's spokespersons.

The protesters, who have chanted slogans such as "Public transport for all", have affirmed that line 18, which replaced 61, does not cover the needs of residents in the three districts, "especially of the elderly or those in situations of dependence they need to approach the center or referral hospitals to receive healthcare. "

Therefore, they have indicated their intention to continue with the protests after the summer in case the situation is maintained.

Both lines, like all those that connect the districts, are of regional ownership, so it must be the Autonomous Community that modifies the contract with the public transport concessionaire, Latbus.

However, in the meeting that representatives of the Neighborhood Platform had for weeks about the Recovery of Line 61 with the General Director of Transport, José Ramón Diez de Revenga, the answer they got was that "I was not going to put a line for four neighbors, or a bus for each neighbor at your door. "
