NOW MURCIA denounces that the invasive species 'rabo de gato' is still present in public spaces of the municipality once the alleged eradication plan of the PP government has been finalized.

The Plenary Session of the City Council approved a motion by Ahora Murcia in February 2017 demanding the elimination of this species, which led the PP to present an eradication plan that was scheduled to end in November 2017. "However," he assures Alicia Morales, "in several public places that this plant existed when we prepared the motion, continues to be present today, which shows that the plan has not been carried out or completed correctly."

The councilor affirms that the harmful species 'pennisetum setacetum' is still present in roundabouts, flowerbeds and ditches of the municipality, despite the fact that the purpose of the motion of Ahora Murcia and the City Council itself was its complete eradication.

Given this situation, Now Murcia has written to the Councilor for Modernization of Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén, to ask about the fulfillment of the plan drawn up in 2017 by the company STV to end the plant in the city of Murcia and the districts, "confirming if all the units that were inventoried with their exact location were later eradicated and if there are sites that were not detected".

Morales considers it necessary that the Department and the company carry out a review 'in situ' of the inventoried spaces to eradicate now the species that were not eliminated.

Morales points out that the elimination of 'cat's tail' represents an important protection for the ecosystem of the municipality, "which still suffers in several places the presence of this species that is considered by the Ministry of the Environment as an invasive exotic species. has escaped control in various public spaces has also led to it being extended also by areas of traditional garden, threatening native species.

The spokeswoman for Murcia now underlines the importance of the City of Murcia "put the stakes in the policies of urban trees and urban gardening, as they are doing more and more municipalities, so that our municipality enjoys a municipality with a healthy and sustainable ecosystem ".
