The procedures for the rehabilitation of the environment of the Noria and the Aqueduct of La Ñora begin (06/07/2018)

The Governing Board has approved the management assignment to Urbamusa for the drafting of the Special Plan for the Planning of the area surrounding the Noria and the La Ñora Aqueduct, which will affect a total area of ​​1.78 hectares.

The fundamental objective is to perform those actions that eliminate the distorting elements that disturb the contemplation or integrity of the monument.

Thus, the project will establish the conditions for improvement and conservation of the spaces next to the La Ñora Wheel, the Aljufia and Alfatego irrigation ditches and the La Rueda Mill, and the criteria to improve the appearance of nearby homes will be defined. give uniformity to the whole.

La Rueda de la Ñora is assigned the grade 1 of integral protection so that the hydraulic ingenuity will be fully conserved, respecting the systems with which it was built, the restoration and conservation will be done respecting the original materials and a harmonious environment will be sought with the construction, providing an adequate visual field for contemplation.

The project will be formed, among other documents, by an informative report that includes the analysis of the circumstances and elements that concur in the field (urban plot, the historical-archaeological interest and landscape of the area, the relationship with the garden and its traditional irrigation systems, the degradation of certain areas, the improvement of accessibility ...), economic studies, landscape study, Strategic Environmental Assessment and archaeological report.

The wheel of La Ñora was declared BIC in 1982 and is one of the symbols of the Huerta de Murcia.

It has a diameter of 10 meters and was built in 1936 replacing another older one built in wood and whose first copy known at documentary level dates from 1399. The aqueduct that accompanies the Ferris wheel has a length of about 220 meters, varying between 7 and 9 meters its height.

Its origins date back to the 15th century.
