The IX edition of the contest 'Aguas de Murcia solidaria' will allow the construction of a school with water collection system in western Uganda (04/07/2018)

The IX edition of the contest 'Aguas de Murcia solidaria' has already won.

The NGO Rafiki Africa will receive a total of 12,000 euros to continue developing its project 'Integral development of a depressed rural area in Uganda'.

In total they have presented to this new edition, whose objective is to finance a project of aid whose fundamental purpose is the installation or improvement of the hydraulic infrastructure that makes possible the availability of the services of potable water supply and sanitation, eight organizations with projects of help in countries like Tanzania, Tajikistan or Niger among others.

Rafiki Africa is working in the district of Sembabule, located in the west of Uganda, in the construction of a school that will have 8 classrooms, kitchen, nursing, administrative offices, sports fields, growing areas (food garden) and leisure .

This construction is being carried out in the town of Kenziga surrounded by large scattered population and, according to forecasts, the works will be completed in two months.

The action in the school contemplates the collection of water from the roofs of the school by means of tanks, on the one hand superficial and for sanitary and secondary use, and, on the other, by means of two underground tanks of 60 m3 for alimentary use.

The school is composed of two large modules with zinc roof and channeling to the tanks.

Also, 8 tanks will be built in individual houses that will provide coverage to the most disadvantaged families.

Thanks to this contest has been achieved in previous years to carry out the following projects:

In 2009, "Improvement of the conditions of access to water of 2,900 people (1,660 women and 1,240 men) from the town of Niévrare, in the commune of BoerToress, Wilaya de Trarza, Mauritania" by the Assembly for Cooperation for Peace.

In 2010 the winner was Engineering Without Borders, with the project "Hydrosanitary Program of the District of Same: Reinforcement of the sustainability of water and sanitation services in the communities of Njora, Vumari and Ishinde, Tanzania"

2011 the winner was for the second time, Assembly of Cooperation for Peace with the project "Improvement of the food security of the inhabitants of the commune of Djonaba, in the province of MaghtaLahjar, Brankna region, Mauritania", benefiting 2,521 people directly and 12,562 indirectly.

In 2012, Solidaridad Internacional, with its project "Improvement of the quality of life of the Afro-Colombian communities affected by the armed conflict in the department of Cauca, Colombia", was chosen as the winner of the fourth edition.

In 2013 Alianza por la Solidaridad won the prize for the project "Access to water for the inhabitants of Las Casitas village in El Salvador".

2014 the project presented by FADE won the VI edition and is making it possible to bring drinking water to the rural populations of Mbleoa and Ayene, in Cameroon.

2015 - The seventh edition was for the Humanism and Democracy Foundation that worked on improving access to drinking water in the community of Los Paleos, in the municipality of Les Cacaos in Haiti.

This project has guaranteed the right to potable water to 95 families and approximately 750 people, from the Los Paleos community.

2016 - Winner VIII edition of the "Aguas de Murcia Solidaria" competition.

FIRE FIGHTERS IN ACTION with the project "Installation of water tanks and construction of latrines" (Sahrawi refugee camps) "Tindouf".

The direct beneficiaries were about 900 inhabitants.
