The European Commission, through the Directorate General of Regional and Urban Policy, has chosen the candidacy of Murcia as the representative city of Europe in Asia to export its City Model to India, specifically, to the city of Solapur, belonging to the state of Maharastra (center-west of the country), which has a population close to one million inhabitants.

José Ballesta has reported that, after this first meeting, "a delegation of Solapur, composed of public representatives and specialists in urban development, will travel to Murcia this September, to analyze the management carried out Murcia in terms of recovery of public spaces and participation, Smart City and water management, three areas in which Murcia has been recognized as an international reference of good practices ".

Murcia leads the European program of International Urban Cooperation (IUC) in Asia, since the candidacy of the capital of the Region has obtained the highest score of this call, which has ERDF funding, and which will allow the transfer of good practices and the elaboration of a joint Local Action Plan focused on three aspects: Urban Governance & Regeneration, Public Spaces & Services and Water Management.

Murcia exports its Strategy to Europe, Latin America and Asia

After the signing of today's agreement with Solapur, Murcia expands its relations with the outside world and makes the leap to the Asian continent, to establish joint lines of work and open up new opportunities in terms of international cooperation and urban development.

In the European sphere, the city of Murcia, with its urban DNA project and its Murcia 2020 City Strategy, is one of the leaders of the Urbact international working group and has become a benchmark for the rest of the cities.

Particularly noteworthy is the ADN Urbano initiative, the intervention model in public spaces, which has been valued by the European Union as an international benchmark and model of good practices, followed closely by international observers.

"Urban DNA is governed by two key principles in the cities of the 21st century: the co-government of neighborhoods and urban centers, that is, the effective participation of neighbors in decision-making, and the recovery of public spaces with initiatives that reflect the personality, identity and history of its neighbors, "recalled José Ballesta.

Likewise, Murcia exports its strategic projects to cities in Latin America and the Caribbean, within the Network of Transfer of Sustainable Urban Knowledge (Urbelac), making an exchange of experiences with the cities of Buenos Aires, Campo Grande, Guadalajara and Montevideo.

The City Strategy of the City of Murcia, based on the social agreement with the multiple actors and social and associative groups of the municipality, has been recognized as one of the best in Spain, by the Government of Spain and the European Union, situating us the head of the country in obtaining ERDF funding.
