The Murcian Society of Anthropology will continue developing actions that make known the Cemetery Our Father Jesus (30/06/2018)

The Department of Sports and Health has extended the agreement with the Murcian Society of Anthropology for the realization of studies on the cultural history of the Cemetery Our Father Jesus.

Thanks to this agreement, a grant of 5,000 euros has been granted to this institution which will allow continuing to develop actions that reveal the intricacies of the main Murcian cemetery.

This will work on the development of two new guides, one on women in the history of Murcia and one on protagonists of progress, thus completing the already published on 'Writers and artists', 'The cemetery as a cultural asset' and 'Elites' of the nineteenth century. '

Also, as of October, guided visits to these municipal facilities will be held every Sunday, instead of biweekly as it has been doing so far, and will be themed.

Likewise, a web page will be developed that links the guides with multimedia information through a QR code and a day will be organized in Murcia, scheduled for October 30 and 31, on funeral cultures in Europe, and guided tours will continue to be held.

With this initiative the City wants to promote knowledge about the past that houses this cemetery, as well as informative activities and publications that encourage the analysis of its cultural history, highlighting illustrious characters whose remains are deposited there.

In 2015, the City Council began its collaboration with the Murcian Society of Anthropology, the University of Murcia and the Center for European Studies of the UMU.

This cemetery, which last year celebrated its 130th anniversary of the first burial, is one of the 34 that exist in the municipality, it is the largest and the only one of municipal ownership.

Our Father Jesus, located in the hamlet of El Puntal (although popularly known as the 'Espinardo Cemetery'), currently houses 166,000 inhumadas.
