The PSOE leads the fight against plastic in the municipality of Murcia and takes a motion to the Plenary to reduce its use from now (27/06/2018)

The socialist councilor Enrique Ayuso asks the City Council to promote campaigns against bags, glasses and bottles for single use on a daily basis and in events organized, as well as festivities such as the Bando de la Huerta and the Pilgrimage of the Fuensanta

The Municipal Socialist Group will raise to the Plenary of the City of Murcia to be held tomorrow a motion that aims to reduce the amount of plastic used in the municipality thus addressing the recent complaints raised by environmental organizations to the increase in environmental pollution to large scale.

"It is a problem that requires local actions and the City of Murcia should not remain oblivious to it.Living without plastic is a real challenge, a very difficult goal to achieve, but there are reports that already warn that avoiding only the bags and bottles of water can eliminate between 70% and 90% of waste, "says Enrique Ayuso, who stresses that" the damages that by the use of plastic are generated in certain economic activities, such as fishing or tourism. "

Therefore, the PSOE will ask the local government to promote awareness campaigns to reduce the use of plastic bags, glasses and bottles among the institutions and associations with which it relates (educational communities, consumer associations, merchants, hospitality , municipal boards, youth centers, cultural centers, senior centers, women's centers ...).

In addition, the Socialist Group will demand the Consistory to carry out initiatives to also reduce the use of plastic in young festivals, musical performances organized by the City Council and local festivities with municipal participation such as the Bando de la Huerta and the Pilgrimage of the Virgin of the Fuensanta.

The municipal government team will also be urged to develop a policy aimed at not using single-use plastics and a transition plan that includes aspects of social responsibility in all municipal facilities.

In this way, it will be possible to gradually eliminate the use of single-use plastic containers and invest in reusable packaging.

These actions would be controlled through audits in all municipal dependencies.
