The City of Murcia continues to work on saving water in green areas and trees of Murcia.

A modern irrigation monitoring system controls more than 300 hectares of green areas in the municipality by state-of-the-art systems such as Wi-Fi and GPRS, allowing, among other things, the detection of any leak or breakdown and its immediate repair, as well as any meteorological alteration (wind, rain) the paralysis of the irrigation system, since there is a meteorological station installed for it.

"It is about watering the trees, plants and green areas of the municipality but always with a control that allows at all times to control and monitor what water is spent and where, with a single goal: the saving and spending of this precious good in its just measure ", explains the mayor of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, José Guillén.

For this, a team of five plumbers, gardeners from the area and managers of the STV Gestión concessionary company (together with Murcia City Council technicians), are in charge of the control of these systems and their constant revision.

With the arrival of summer and high temperatures it is necessary to increase the personnel and dedication to these systems, which, for example, allow that if it is raining, the programmed irrigation systems are not activated, or if an anomalous amount of water is detected in a sector can be solved in a fast and efficient way, among others.

Specifically, these systems control about 300 hectares of which about 700,000 square meters are allocated to lawn in the municipality of Murcia.
