Maruja Pelegrín shows the regret of the Corporation for the death of Francisco Griéguez (21/06/2018)

The Councilor for Trade and Institutional Relations, Maruja Pelegrín, today expressed the regret of the Municipal Corporation for the death of Francisco Griéguez, one of the Murcians who were deported in the Nazi extermination camps.

Precisely next Monday, at 7 pm, was scheduled to hold an institutional act of the City of Murcia in memory of the victims, for which a monolith has been placed on the street Human Rights, thus fulfilling the unanimous agreement of the Plenary of the Corporation .

It is a public act organized by the Municipal Corporation to publicly express 'our admiration and gratitude towards those who put their own lives at risk to defend the freedom of all'.

One of the darkest pages in the history of the European continent was written in the Nazi concentration camps, to the point where citizens of 70 countries were deported, among them, hundreds of Spaniards who suffered a harshness and suffering that could hardly be imagined.

Mauthausen was known as the Spanish camp because in its precincts approximately 7,500 of the 10,000 Spaniards remained who were deported to the extermination camps between 1940 and 1945. Of these, 85 belonged at the time to Murcia, of which 53 were killed .

In total, 5,000 met the death in that field and of those who left, barely survives a score.

Among them was Francisco Griéguez Pina, who died today in France, where he lived.
