The Councils of Infrastructure, Works and Services and Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, directed by Rebeca Pérez and José Guillén, respectively, in collaboration with the concessionaire Ferrovial Servicios and the association Región de Murcia Limpia, have organized the Río Limpio Challenge , an activity in which different associations and volunteers participate to clean the Segura River, from the Contraparada to the Fica.
The event will begin at 9:30 am at the meeting point of volunteers, at the Plaza de la Cruz Roja, and at 10:00 hours the Segura River will begin cleaning.
At 12 noon there will be children's activities and at 1:00 PM there will be a party for all the participants with a musical performance by Eliana Poveda and free tasting of paella.
"An action that has as main objective the citizen awareness in the care of the environment, the need for collaboration to keep our municipality clean and the importance of the selective collection of waste for subsequent recycling for the protection of the environment," said Rebeca Pérez .
The cleaning will be carried out along both banks of the riverbed organized by groups of 10 volunteers guided by a person in charge, who will be trained in environmental care, recycling in the municipality of Murcia and organization of teams.
The person in charge of each team will be in charge of writing down the waste that is collected to measure the quantities and recycling it according to the material.
A kit with bags of the four colors of recycling, cap, badge, gloves, bracelet and notebook will be delivered.
With the waste, a work will be carried out to serve as an example of reuse.
The cleaning will also be done from the river, with the collaboration of 'Tío de la Barca', which will make available to the event 10 boats in which three volunteers will go, in each, directed by their manager.
In addition, the concessionary company of the Department of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, STV Management will review and prune the trees that invades the bike lane, will support some cleaning tasks and will use to install banks.
This initiative will have the Patinar association in Murcia that will be in charge of the logistical support for what the volunteers may need along the whole route.
From Murcia Clean is intended to promote the idea that citizens combine physical exercise with waste collection as is done in other cities around the world.
Information on the waste that has been collected can be sent to the Marnoba project of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment and the international platform Ocean Conservancy.
The presence of a Civil Protection team is also planned to ensure the assistance and safety of all participants.
