The International University of the Sea teaches how to adapt leisure to people with intellectual disabilities (13/06/2018)

The International University of the Sea (Unimar) has organized a course to raise awareness and provide the necessary tools to adapt leisure to people with intellectual disabilities and thus allow them to have a better quality of life.

The course, which is entitled 'Leisure and disability: a path towards inclusion.

Cognitive accessibility: comprehensible spaces', will be developed between June 27 and 30 in the Faculty of Education of the University of Murcia and will dedicate the last day to a coexistence in the youth space La Nave de Puente Tocinos.

David Rivera, director of the SOI Foundation and organizer of the course, explains that the main objective of the workshop is "to give people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy leisure with the same opportunities as others".

The training will be directed in two main areas: teaching to create more understandable spaces and adapting documents so that leisure is inclusive.

One of the objectives of the course is to promote a change in the current vision of people with disabilities and to sensitize participants about their daily reality, the importance of decision-making and the support they need to improve their lives .

People with cerebral palsy and disabilities will participate in the workshop as speakers to explain their experiences and needs to the participants.

The trainers of the course are mostly professionals from Plena Inclusión and Fundación SOI.

The deadline to make requests is still open.
