The PSOE demands a complete and varied program of activities that offers a real alternative to young people from 13 to 17 years old (12/06/2018)

Espinosa says that "the only possibility left to children is to stay at home in front of the computer while their parents work, so it is difficult to reconcile work and family life, or to go to Zumba class twice a week in a center to which they will have to travel by bus "

The Councilor understands that the program "does not give for more when, according to the municipal budgets, the City Council gives 7.6 euros per youth and year, while for investments there are only 50,000 euros, which are absolutely insufficient"

The Municipal Socialist Group calls on the government team, the PP, a greater effort to design and develop a complete and varied program of activities for young people in our municipality while their parents work, "since the holidays during the summer stage do not match in duration and the only alternative that is left to those who are between 13 and 17 years is to stay at home in front of the computer or with the mobile phone, "explains Councilwoman Maite Espinosa, who warns that with this program" it is difficult to contribute to the Reconciling work and family life".

In addition, he notes that "after knowing the program for these months in two youth centers, we see that there are summer schools for children from 6 to 12 years in the morning and then activities of zumba, karate or yoga in the afternoon and twice by week, what we think is a poor program for our young people, between 13 and 17 years old, who should be able to choose activities that make fun and learning compatible ".

The councilor affirms that "we understand that the program does not allow for more when the total budget allocated to Youth is so raucous. In fact, in the municipal budgets are allocated 7.6 euros per young person per year and, in addition, the departure for investments is only 50,000 euros, which is absolutely insufficient, especially when there are no specific spaces in many neighborhoods and districts for young people. "

In this regard, remember that the young collective of the municipality that must be served by the City is approximately 100,000 people, between 10 and 30 years, who devotes 0.4% of the municipal budget, less than two million euros .

In addition, 0.1% of the same budget, 50,000 euros, is the total amount allocated to investments.

"We spent three times the interest on late payments, as we criticized last week," says Espinosa.

Likewise, it states that "almost half of these young people, 49,000, are between 12 and 18 years old and for them there is no continuous and attractive program that fills their vacations with a good leisure alternative".

Therefore, the councilor qualifies that "we have an age range of boys who are older to have a place in a summer school and which the only alternative offered by the City Council is to go two afternoons a week to Zumba, for example , to a youth center that will most likely have to travel by bus. "

"I think the City Council should redouble its efforts with this group, because it is no longer just a matter of helping their parents to go to work with the peace of mind that their children are having fun or doing something useful, it is that a good program can help them in its own development, "he declares.
