The archaeological remains of the Molino de la Pólvora are covered in a preventive way to avoid damage and to ensure the safety of the neighbors (08/06/2018)

Rebeca Pérez: "The City Council of Murcia is the first to recover the infrastructure of our local traditions, the difference is that we let the experts work"

The spokeswoman for the Government Team and Councilor for Infrastructure and Public Works and Services, Rebeca Pérez, informed this morning that the archaeological remains of the Molvo de la Pólvora have been covered to protect them and prevent them from deteriorating, a site dating from the 18th century in the main canal of Aljufía, between Rincón de Beniscornia and Guadalupe.

"The Government Team is carrying out various actions to protect our heritage in La Huerta, with the Plan of Action of La Huerta, for example, this action to protect the site was contemplated in the work, so rigorous and delicate that they are doing both in this mill and in the rest of the hydraulic infrastructures that we are recovering ", reports Rebeca Pérez.

The archaeological remains are protected, covered and covered during the reconstruction of the Powder Mill while the works are being carried out.

"The mill, as neighbors know, is located in a busy area so we have to ensure the safety of the people and the care of this site." Of course, this finding will not be hidden, when they finish. the works are planned to be put into value, but until then, the hole is in a passage zone, it is a preventive and temporary action, proposed by the archaeologists in charge of the project ", concludes Pérez.

"I am glad to know that Huermur worries about this mill, but it is irresponsible to create such alarmism for the work of the archaeologists. From the City of Murcia, we are the first to recover this type of infrastructures of our huertanas traditions, the difference is that we let the experts work in order to carry out rigorous work and to be able to keep these remains so that our neighbors can enjoy it ", clarifies the Government Spokesperson.

Rebeca Pérez points out that "less regrets and more proposals, Huermur criticizes a lot but does nothing, does not participate in the Huerta Week, does not propose activities, ... only complains and denounces things that are unknown in most cases. that we leave some remains exposed so that they degrade? Do they want us not to look for the safety of our neighbors? It's not our style of work, and it should not be anyone's style, let alone an association that is supposed to work for the kitchen garden from an armchair ".

And Rebeca Pérez concludes that "the professionals have ruled that this is the best option to protect the deposit and we will do so, when the works are finished, the archaeological remains will be exposed so that the residents of the entire municipality can take pride in our roots".
