The Government Board has awarded today the works, which have a budget of 740,000 euros and may be completed in the spring of next year.

Along 8.5 km a green itinerary will be created in an environment of great landscape qualities in which more than 45,000 people reside.

The Governing Board has today awarded one of the Corporation's strategic projects.

In this case, it is the construction of a green path that will run between Los Ramos and Los Dolores, thus recovering for citizen use a space of 40,000 m2 occupied so far by the unused railway track.

The municipality thus gains an abandoned space that will directly benefit the 45,000 people who live in that environment, where from now on they will be able to enjoy walking or practicing sports in a new green lung and a wide leisure area.

The itinerary goes through Alquerías, Los Ramos, Torreagüera, Beniaján, San José de la Vega, Los Garres and Los Dolores.

The project, which will be executed by the councils of Infrastructures, Works and Services and of Urbanism, Environment, Water and Vegetable Garden, will allow to have a route of great landscape value that crosses the Huerta de la Costera Sur.

For this transformation to be possible, the City Council first agreed with Adif to transfer the land, which has a length of 8.5 kilometers.

The project, which has a budget of 739,751 euros and a term of 9 months, will be executed by the UTE formed by Eneas Servicios Integrales SA and Sánchez y Lago SL

New friendly way in the heart of the garden

The route through this part of the Huerta de Murcia will connect with other itineraries, such as the Reguerón, the Rio motes or the existing road network, creating a mesh of green routes that will generate a new mobility by valuing the natural environment.

The Murcians will have a new friendly way in the heart of the Costera Sur orchard, with a 5-meter wide walkway endowed with a natural treatment by planting 1,800 native species trees on both sides of the path, which It will expand in certain points to create rest and recreation area, endowed with urban furniture.

On the other hand, the project foresees the elimination of most of the unusable upper passage structures, creating connections and pedestrian and road crossings in the points where this connection exists or is most necessary, with special attention, given the importance and affection of the route, by the population of Beniaján.
