'And archeology arrived in the classroom', the book that invites us to play history in class (07/06/2018)

Next Thursday June 7 will be the presentation of the book 'And the archeology came to the classroom' (Ediciones Trea), presented by the professors of the University of Murcia Alejandro Egea Vivancos and Laura Arias Ferrer who, together with the professor of the University of Barcelona (UB) Joan Santacana and Mestre, have been the coordinators of the work.

The appointment will begin at 7:00 pm in the Hemicycle of the Faculty of Arts with the presentation of the book.

This brings together many international educational experiences implemented in different schools and educational levels to bring the story closer, motivating and, above all, as advocated by Egea and Arias in the conclusions of the book, to make the student "the protagonist of the process "of learning to get to think how archaeologists do it.

Create archaeological museums in the classes, perform simulated excavations, or learn history with archaeological replicas are some of the proposals that teachers implement to reach their students.

These isolated cases, for the first time in a book, aim to serve as a model for teachers interested in innovating in their classrooms.

After the presentation, Santacana will give the conference 'Archeology and the challenge of educating' that aims to review all the educational benefits archeology has when it reaches the classrooms.

Joan Santacanase has become a national reference in Didactics of History.

This archaeologist, doctor in Pedagogy and professor of Didactics of Social Sciences of the UB, has participated in numerous archaeological excavations, as well as in such singular projects as the reconstruction of the Iberian Citadel of Calafell in Tarragona.

The event is organized by the Center for Studies of the Near East and Late Antiquity (CEPOAT) and by the research group of Didactics of Social Sciences (DICSO) of the University of Murcia, to which Egea and Arias belong.

It will be moderated by the professor of Archeology José Miguel Noguera and will also include the participation of the professor of Ancient History and director of the CEPOAT Gonzalo Matilla, the professor of Didactics of the Social Sciences Pedro Miralles and the director of the company Inteligencia Inteligente Juan Gallardo, sponsors of the work.
