Rafael García Molina, new academic numerary of the Academy of Sciences of the Region of Murcia (05/06/2018)

The professor of Applied Physics of the University of Murcia (UMU) Rafael García Molina will swell the list of academics that make up the Academy of Sciences of the Region of Murcia.

The inauguration, which will be in an act whose entry is free until full capacity, will take place tomorrow, June 6, 2018, at 7:30 p.m., at the Cajamurcia Culture Classroom, located in the Gran Vía Building of the Gran Vía Escultor Salzillo de Murcia.

García Molina, who has been involved in the study of the physical processes involved in the treatment of cancer for many years, and who is also one of the most recognized scientific disseminators at a national level, will give a lecture titled 'Simplemente física', in the who will review your professional activities.

On his scientific advances, the researcher will explain the technique called hadrontherapy, which uses ion beams to treat certain types of cancer.

Next, he will approach his teaching facet, where in addition to having tried to teach his subjects well, he is convinced of the importance of spreading physics among society so that he knows the numerous benefits that this discipline has.

In this sense, "I claim scientific disclosure, in my case making use of recreational physics, as it is a necessary and pleasant task through which researchers strengthen links with the society that supports our work," he says.

The speech of answer will be in charge of the numerary academic Ángel Ferrández Izquierdo.

An impeccable trajectory towards the Academy

Rafael García Molina has studied the theory and simulation of the interaction of charged energetic particles with condensed matter.

Among his most recent works, is the interaction of beams of protons and carbon ions with biomaterials of interest in hadrontherapy.

On the other hand, it has developed the SEICS code (Simulation of Energy Ions and Clusters through Solids) that follows the movement of rapid projectiles through condensed matter.

This scientist, who is a co-researcher responsible for the Group of Excellence of the Region of Murcia "Numerical simulations of complex interacting systems", has 130 publications in international specialized journals and more than 150 communications in international congresses.

As a disseminator, García Molina has received several awards such as 'Science in Action' or 'Science on Stage'.

In addition, in 2016, it won the 'Prize for Teaching and Dissemination of Physics', which is organized by the Royal Spanish Physics Society and the BBVA Foundation.
