A sketch with all the paint of José Orihuela (01/06/2018)

María Garres Sánchez, 23, a native of Molina de Segura and a fourth-year student of the Fine Arts Degree, is the winner of the Contest Retrata a tu Rector, organized by the University of Murcia to produce a portrait of José Orihuela, with destination to the Gallery of rectors of the Convalecencia Building.

María confesses happy and excited to undertake this work, which, according to her, is both a prize and a challenge, although she confesses that in the first moments, when she thought about presenting herself to the contest convened by the UMU, she felt real fear, for the responsibility that represented to realize a picture destined to occupy a place of privilege in the building of the Rectorship, an emblematic place, in which there are works of artists as prominent as Lucas, Gaya, Ballester, Falgas ...

Finally, María Garres found a trick to overcome this fear: "I changed my attitude when I stopped thinking that the person being portrayed was a very important person, and I imagined that he was someone from my family, I thought about how he would be as a father, as a teacher ... I ended up taking love, and that gave me confidence. "

María says she studied the rector in full, finally making thirty drawings and paintings of different details of his anatomy: hands, eyes ... Confesses the winner, when someone told him that the wife of the aspiring portrayed that "this person he is going to portray my husband well "," he made me a tremendous illusion, he comments- that someone so close to him would trust, without knowing me, that he would be able to make a good portrait of José Orihuela ".

For his part, José Orihuela himself is satisfied with the excellent general level reached by the artists who have submitted to the contest, which in his opinion, speaks very well of the teaching given in our Faculty of Fine Arts.

The former director emphasizes the fact that the young winner is still a student of the UMU, which speaks highly of the future that awaits him in art.

Orihuela confesses to be surprised by the level of the winner: "I think that his work is of great quality, and more than meets expectations."

"On the other hand, he has analyzed every part of my anatomy, and I recognize myself in each and every one of the works he has submitted to the contest", "I think he added that it is a committed, quality portrait that will measure up with the rest of portraits of the gallery of rectors ".
