The University of Murcia has signed two collaboration agreements this morning with the Spanish Committee of People with Disabilities of the Region of Murcia (CERMI RM) and with the Down Syndrome Foundation (FUNDOWN).

The event was attended by, among others, José Luján Alcaraz, rector of the University of Murcia;

Pedro Martínez López, president of CERMI;

Diego González Pallarés, president of FUNDOWN;

Antonio Pérez Manzano, technician of Attention to the Diversity and Community Health of the UMU;

and MÂŞ Cristina Sánchez López, vice chancellor of Students.

Antonio Pérez Manzano, initiator of the general protocol of action in the signing of the agreement with CERMI, commented that "this agreement comes to frame an excellent relationship between the CERMI and the UMU in general, and the Service of Attention to Diversity and Volunteering (ADyV) in particular, showing a total harmony in terms of objectives, vision and work methodology that is reflected in numerous projects or joint actions ".

Among them, he has highlighted examples such as the 'Campus Inclusivo' program, the European project 'Mobiability' or the 'Todos Somos Campus' program.

In addition, he pointed out that "this agreement will allow us to consolidate a bit more a higher education based on equity, offering all our students the necessary resources to develop their talent and capabilities to the maximum, regardless of whether they have vision problems , if they do not hear well or if they travel in a wheelchair ".

On the other hand, Pedro Martínez López, has expressed that for CERMI "today is a great day", since the signing of this agreement is vital to achieve the social and labor insertion of people with disabilities, and will allow to maintain lines of more constant collaboration to achieve that goal.

He also highlighted the need to create a general commission that monitors all the projects that are carried out, from work practices, research programs, leisure, etc.

In relation to the signing of the agreement with FUNDOWN, the vice-rector of Students has remarked that the relationship between this entity and the UMU has always been very close and that dates back to 1997, the year in which the first framework agreement was signed between the two .

Of the activities carried out during these years, it has highlighted the program of shared housing among university students and young people with intellectual disabilities, which has been operating since 2008. The signing of this new protocol, twenty-one years later, "renews and enriches the harmony between these entities and the will that we all have to continue growing and collaborating together. "

In his speech, the president of FUNDOWN said that it is a pleasure to sign this agreement that will allow to continue working on the different projects that are currently underway to "contribute to Down syndrome and intellectual disability improvements in the quality of life and a better social and labor integration ".

Finally, the ceremony was closed by José Luján, rector of the UMU, who has been satisfied with the signing of both agreements, which will allow for collaborative works that go back many years.

"The university we want is an inclusive university where all people have a place," he said.
