The City Council adapts to the new General Regulation of Data Protection (30/05/2018)

The City Council, through the Department of Modernization of the Administration and Urban Development, and in order to adapt to the new General Regulation of Data Protection, has published on the municipal website a summary of the main novelties and principles of the regulations, as well as the appointment of the Delegate for Data Protection and the contact data of the same, so that any person through an email address, can exercise their rights with respect to their personal data.

In addition, on the same web page, notification of said appointment appears to the Spanish Agency for Data Protection.

Also the Department, together with all the Heads of Service of the City, is working for months, to implement the new principles of the regulation and, specifically, obtaining the express consent of those affected.

Therefore, in the Electronic Headquarters of the City Council, procedures and forms will be adapted to the new legislation

The General Data Protection Regulation, aims to establish a common legal framework for all States of the European Union, which affects both individuals and private companies, as well as Public Administrations that are responsible daily for multiple data treatments.

Among the novelties of the General Regulation of Data Protection, there is the creation of the figure of the Delegate for Data Protection, regulated in articles 37, 38 and 39 thereof, this figure being mandatory for all Public Administrations.

Its functions are report, advice and supervision.

Councilman José Guillén explained that "given the volume of data to be treated at the City Council, we could have opted for a service contract with a company, which would be in charge of adapting to the new Regulation, but for the sake of efficiency principles -because we believe in our officials- and efficiency -to avoid costs to the citizen- we preferred that it was the legal and computer services themselves, which assumed the task of adapting the data processing to the new General Data Protection Regulation.
