The rector asks Podemos and all the parties of the Region "to be accomplices" of the UMU's projects (30/05/2018)

The rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján, has received on Wednesday the general secretary of Podemos, Oscar Urralburu;

a meeting with which closes the round of contacts with all the political parties with representation in the regional Assembly after his arrival in office.

José Luján has made it clear that to start up his project for the University of Murcia it is necessary to collaborate and ask for the collaboration of political parties, social agents and business organizations.

"Taking forward a government project of present and future of a large institution, as open and as complex as the University of Murcia needs the complicity of many agents.Political parties have to be sensitive to the reality and the future that needs the University of Murcia, the main engine of economic and social development in the Region of Murcia ", said the rector before his meeting with Urralburu.

When asked if the University fears the paralysis of projects due to the political situation and the possibility of electoral advances, the rector has been calm because of the conviction that all political forces must be "aligned with the interests of the University, because those are the interests of the Region of Murcia. "

For his part, the Secretary General of Podemos, Oscar Urralburu, wanted to thank the rector for the round of contacts with the parliamentary groups and has assured that in Podemos "we share the idea that public universities should be the main agents of development of the Region of Murcia and therefore we have to work so that they have the support of the political parties ".

Urralburu believes that "not all parties have the same opinion and we are seeing serious differences in the Regional Assembly, we saw it last week in the debate on the motion to reduce public tuition fees in the public universities of the Region; Citizens and Podemos do not have the same opinion as Podemos and PSOE and that worries us ".

The spokesman of the parliamentary group has influenced the concern that Podemos has about the economic difficulties that many young people still have to enter the University.

Urralburu considers it essential to reduce the prices of tuition fees, improve the scholarship policy and guarantee financial autonomy for the University;

working from accountability and transparency.

He has also talked about the map of titles of the Region of Murcia, which considers Urralburu that has not worked.

Proof of this, he argued, is the fact that "there are graduates who have to look for work outside the Region of Murcia because they can not find an outlet in the regional productive fabric." An effort must be made to order titles and ensure that they have development. professional in the Region of Murcia ".

Finally, Urralburu wanted to thank the Claustro of the University of Murcia held on Tuesday the statement of support for scientists of the Committee of Experts of the Mar Menor and stressed that "the key role that the University must play as a technical voice in the margin of political interests and that's a pride. "

First Government Council

With regard to the balance of the first weeks of mandate, since his inauguration last April, the Rector Luján has explained that in this first stage has been able to put into operation again the institutional governance machinery after the elections;

with the conformation of the Cloister and the convocation of the first Council of Government on June 8.

In this sense, and before the media question about the possibility of changing the regulations of university parties, Luján has confirmed that a detailed review of the regulations will be carried out, "which in itself is already a guarantee".

Luján has explained that it must be the Governing Council that makes the decisions in this regard.
