Change requests to incorporate the gender perspective in urban planning of the municipality (28/05/2018)

Murcia change will take a motion to the plenary on Thursday for the preparation of a study, by the Department of Equality of the City and the concessionaire of transport to improve the safety and mobility of the city from a gender perspective.

The proposal of municipal training, promoted by its group of Women, Feminisms and Equality, arises from the need to put in place measures to avoid the insecurity of women in the streets, especially at night.

The councilor who will defend the motion, Margarita Guerrero, has denounced the fact that the return home at night has become something especially unsafe for many women "because neither the urbanism nor the mobility of the municipality are designed with a vision of gender "

Thus, "many women have to get off or get on bus or tram stops where there is nothing around, making the waiting time or the way home long and unsafe," which makes many women opt for private transportation .

Therefore, Murcia Change considered "priority" to include in the study an analysis for the determination of intermediate night stops in which users can get on and off buses, signaling, lines, sections and schedules. In this sense , Guerrero explained that while it is not feasible to leave users at the same door of their homes, yes they can establish "intermediate stops" or "on demand", so that they are close to their destination and reduce insecurity and the risk of aggression.

Agreement with taxis and the hospitality sector

While this document is being prepared, the training has proposed to promote from the City Council a "pilot experience" a collaboration agreement with the Professional Association of Taxis, as well as other interested agents, such as companies in the nightlife sector.

This agreement would include, Guerrero pointed out, facilities to access the taxi service and a reduction in rates, among others.
