Isabel Tejeda, professor of Fine Arts at the University of Murcia, is curator of the exhibition 'A contratiempo.
Half a century of Valencian artists (1929 -1980) ', which can be visited until September 2 at the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAN).
The exhibition recreates the slow and thorny path that Valencian artists had to travel to conquer its visibility and professionalization since the end of the dictatorship of Primo de Rivera, the Second Republic, the Civil War, the Franco regime and the democratic transition.
Something more than fifty years of a tumultuous history full of political, social and economic tensions in which, through works of art, it is questioned how they affected the circumstance of being a woman, as well as discrimination and inequality.
The exhibition includes 240 works and is divided into two large blocks.
The first of them, 'A Lost Generation: II Republic, Civil War and Exile' brings together works performed at this stage by artists such as Manuela Ballester, Elisa Piqueras, Gerda Taro, Tina Modotti, Kati Horna, Juana Francisca, Pitti Bartolozzi, Alma Tapia , Amparo Segarra, Eugenio Granell and Josep Renau.
The second block, entitled 'Dictatorship and transition', brings together the pieces produced during the Franco dictatorship and the democratic transition of artists such as Juana Frances, Eva Mus, Jacinta Gil, Fernando Mañez, Ana Peters, Carmen Calvo, Isabel Oliver, Ángela García Codoñer , Victoria Civera and Juan Uslé, Cecilia Bartolomé, José J. Bartolomé, María Montes, Josep Lluís Seguí, Monika Buch, Milagros Lambert, Rosa Torres, Soledad Sevilla, Ángeles Marco, Cristina Grau, Ana Torralva, Pepa García, Victoria García, María Dolores Casanova and Pilar Mir.
