The representatives of the associations and collectives of the third sector of the municipality of Murcia today took the floor at a participatory meeting that was attended by the Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality, Mario Garcés, and the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta.

Education and youth, gender violence, elderly and disability were the main topics of debate in this massive 'Participatory Day on Social Policy, Youth and Equality', which has been attended by numerous representatives of civil society groups in Murcia, and that also counted on the interventions of the President of the Regional Federation of Murcian Students (Feremur), Rafael Olmos, and the councilors of Social Rights, Conchita Ruiz, and Juventud, Rebeca Pérez.

Garcés said that "Murcia is at the forefront of social policies.

We actively collaborate with the City Council and this Seminar analyzes the social thermometer of the city.

We want to know what young people and third sector associations think and try to convey to them the values and commitments of a society that has to be increasingly developed in equality and social justice ".

The City of Murcia allocated to social services and social promotion 28.1 million euros, an amount that has grown more than 25% in this term, from 22.41 million euros in 2015 to 28.07 in 2017 , which is a quarter of the total in what we have been in the legislature.

Education versus indoctrination

The young people occupied a leading role in this event held in the central courtyard of the Cascales de Murcia Institute.

"Education is the only way to combat social inequalities and threats facing our society," said the mayor, who differentiated between education and indoctrination: "He is indoctrinated to create addicts, but he is educated to be free, because the Education does not change the world, but it does change the people who have to change the world.
