Development Cooperation helps 100 people in Colombia to improve their quality of life (27/05/2018)

The City of Murcia, through the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation led by Conchita Ruiz, and the Alliance for Solidarity, have achieved that almost a hundred people, belonging to 23 families of Tumaco (Colombia), have with a basic system of sanitation, access to water and animal care.

The amount subsidized by the City is 16,541.21 euros.

The project has achieved that 23 families have a basic sanitation system that allows the adequate disposal of excreta, decreasing the main risk of housing pollution and the appearance of diseases that affect families.

These families also have access to a sufficient amount and quality of water in the home with a rainwater collection system.

This system works with filters based on porous clay treated with a special colloidal silver bath, which are installed on a hermetic plastic container and which allows a drip that generates clean, fresh and bacteria-free water.

The filter provides 1 to 3 liters per hour, have a minimum duration of 24 months.

In addition, 44 children and 2 teachers have a sanitation system in their educational institution and has improved knowledge about care in storage, cleaning and preparation of food.

The problems that can generate for the health of the family the not having a latrine or bathroom in the house and the classification of solid waste have been solved.

They have also been informed about diseases that can be transmitted by domestic animals such as dogs and cats and how to prevent diseases transmitted by insects, rodents and other pests.

"This project seeks to satisfy the needs of water, hygiene and sanitation of populations affected by the armed conflict in the municipality of Tumaco, which help prevent diseases and improve their quality of life," said Conchita Ruiz.

Alliance for Solidarity

is an organization that channels the effort and support of more than 40,000 people among partners, volunteers, sympathizers and workers to fight against inequalities and contribute to protecting human rights in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe.

This organization carries out humanitarian aid projects for victims of the armed conflict such as humanitarian assistance, psychosocial and legal assistance, water and basic sanitation.

As well as food security, education and distribution of school kits.

Likewise, projects focused on peacebuilding, activities that generate income, construction and / or adaptation of community centers and school infrastructures and community accesses (bridges and elevated roads) are developed.
