Murcia now proposes taking the electric energy self-consumption to the Palacio de los Deportes (25/05/2018)

The motion that Now Murcia will present at the Plenary next Thursday, "has the objective that one of the most emblematic buildings of our municipality and with national and international projection lead the process of bringing the self-consumption of renewable energy to municipal public buildings"

"In the unavoidable energy transition that the City Council will carry out, solar energy will be one of the main sources for electricity supply in our municipality"

NOW MURCIA proposes to take the self-consumption of electrical energy to the Palace of Sports, leading thus the implementation of this practice in municipal public buildings.

The training indicates that the rehabilitation of the sports facility, which will presumably take place soon, "will be a good time to review the Palacio's electric power system and incorporate an installation that takes advantage of the enormous amount of sunshine enjoyed by our city."

Miguel Angel Alzamora recalls that "the City Council Plenary has approved motions for our municipality to adhere to international proposals on climate change and, among them, so that our municipal institutions advance in the consumption of energy from 100% renewable sources" .

In line to move forward in this process "and start with self-consumption in municipal facilities" is part of the motion that Now Murcia will present at the Plenary next Thursday, "with the aim of one of the most emblematic buildings of our municipality and with national and international projection lead this process of bringing the self-consumption of renewable energies to municipal public buildings ".

The almost 25 years that have passed since the construction of the Palacio de los Deportes, its continued use and deficient maintenance have caused it to age excessively.

"Therefore," he says, "have emerged a number of problems that are being reported in recent months by fans as well as by the teams competing there: leaks, poor seating conditions and, in recent times, bad odors and the excessive heat. "

"From the Department of Sports and Health," says Alzamora, "it has been announced a budget in 2018 to repair and reform the Palace of Sports. From Murcia now we believe it is a good time to go further and that this building that It is the image of our city in Spain and outside the country and that is used by thousands of neighbors every week, to become a symbol also of the use of our sustainable energy sources ".

In addition, with this initiative, the Palacio de los Deportes "would help the objective of complying with measures approved at the national and international level for the fight against climate change and pollution, also in line with the adoption of energy efficiency measures of the Pact of the Mayors, which affect our municipality and our Region ".

The City of Murcia, from its Department of Urban Planning, Environment, Water and Garden, has proposed to reduce 8% of emissions by 2020. For this, among the actions scheduled, improvements have been implemented energy efficiency in municipal facilities.

"In the inescapable energetic transition that will realize the City council", affirms the councilman, "the solar energies will be one of the main sources for supply of electricity in our municipality, given the privileged number of hours of sun of the municipality".

The electrical installations for self-consumption in covered sports equipment are increasing in Spain.

Examples of self-consumption with solar energy, with biomass, or mixed, are the Buesa Arena pavilion in Vitoria, several sports centers in San Sebastian, Valencia, Aragón, etc.
