On May 28th, at 7:30 p.m., in the Cultural Area Room of El Corte Inglés, the conference 'The Spinners and Ovid's Metamorphoses', by the researchers of the University of Murcia Rosa María Iglesias Montiel, will take place. and María Consuelo Álvarez Morán.
The activity is part of the cycle 'The UMU and the scientific culture' that the Scientific Culture Unit has been holding since May of last year.
In 2017 the bimillennial of the death of Ovidio, author of classical antiquity with greater influence on literature and the arts, was fulfilled.
In this new talk the professors of Latin Philology will illustrate how the stories of the 'Metamorphoses' are intertwined by procedures similar to those that the spinners use to mix weft and warp in their tapestries.
The professors highlight as more significant episodes the competition between Arachne and Minerva, symbol of the new and old poetic composition, as well as the embroidery of Filomela, symbol of the woman harassed and raped, but who is able to denounce.
Iglesias Montiel and Álvarez Morán are an international benchmark in the literary and mythological analysis of Ovid's 'Metamorphoses' and the survival of classical mythology in literature and music.
