The University of Murcia collaborates with an educational game that reconstructs the Roman Theater of Cartagena (25/05/2018)

The teachers of Social Sciences Teaching of the UMU Alejandro Egea Vivancos and Laura Arias participate as didactic advisors in 'Carthago Nova', a virtual reality game that reproduces the Roman Theater, as it would be in the first century BC

This video game acts as a simulator of the Roman world, helping students to know better the history and heritage of the Region of Murcia.

"The idea is to bring the regional culture in an attractive way to teenagers, using a format that enjoys great acceptance among the young audience", highlights Laura Arias.

The aforementioned teachers have evaluated some of the audiovisuals of the Integra Foundation, coordinator of the project, in order to detect which resources and styles work best among Secondary Education students.

These councils have served so that the new documentaries have better acceptance among the young public.

In this case, in the design of the tests that complete the game, as well as in the didactic sequence that allows its integration in the classroom.

"The goal was to ensure that the tests that the different players go through had a clear educational function and that the game went beyond mere entertainment, and the interests of the teachers have been taken into account, since the tests They review many of the compulsory contents of the Social Sciences curriculum of the 1st of ESO ", adds Alejandro Egea.

The teachers collaborate with the Integra Foundation since July 2016. Under a generic title of the project "Didactics of the social sciences applied to digital resources on the heritage of the Region of Murcia", the professors of the Faculty of Education advise this public company for the correct application of the didactic of social sciences in the digital resources on the heritage of the Region of Murcia produced by Integra.

This virtual reality game is aimed at schoolchildren in the Region, who will be able to tour the monument practically in its entirety.

Through three tests they will have to overcome, they will obtain various 'knowledge capsules', which will include information to reach the final test.

In this way the skill, aim, memory and concentration of the players are put to the test.

The project started with a workshop at the Museum of the Roman Theater of Cartagena where the students of the IES Jimenez de la Espada (Cartagena) could try it first-hand.

From this summer will be available to the public in the activities to be developed by the Foundation in coastal municipalities, technological demonstrations of the Information Society Region of Murcia (Sicarm) and, at the end of the year, in several centers educational
