Press report of the Assembly MURCIA SIN MUROS (25/05/2018)

The Assembly MURCIA SIN MUROS, previously known for having developed the encampment next to the level crossing of Santiago El Mayor, presented publicly at a press conference on May 24 in the garden where camping was previously installed its nature charter, in the which detail their objectives and strategies in order to continue the mobilizations against the installation of the AVE wall once the camping experience is over.

Ana Jiménez, better known as "the grandmother of the tracks", constitutional jurist José Mateos as representative of the collective's legal committee, as well as María Dolores Rex, "Mariola", neighbor directly affected by the works of the AVE, intervened in the presentation. and spokesman for the Assembly.

"The grandmother of the roads" was the first person to take the floor, focusing her intervention on a gratitude to the work done by the people who camped for more than 6 months in the vicinity of the level crossing.

He has also harshly charged against police repression suffered by neighbors on the tracks, even talking about "state terrorism", which blames government delegate Francisco Bernabé, who has directly challenged saying "do not be afraid."

Subsequently, José Mateos has exposed the legal strategy that his commission is carrying out in order to appeal those fines suffered by the demonstrators that have a manifestly arbitrary nature, such as those that are demonstrably false.

In that sense, he has encouraged the sanctioned people not to pay and resort to this type of fines, since, apart from being unfair, they constitute a source of funding for the government delegation.

Finally, María Dolores Rex proceeded to read the Murcia manifesto without walls, in which a review is made of the history of neighborhood mobilizations on the roads, as well as establishing the programmatic proposals of the Assembly, among which should be highlighted the commitment to invest in commuter trains in opposition to the AVE, which considers an elitist train and encourages corruption in the contracts of public works.

It has also been called to do away with the rest of the walls that somehow divide the city.

The attendance to the press conference has been nourished, arriving to congregate in the garden several tens of people, being this a remarkable fact taking into account that the act has been realized at midmorning.

The different interventions have also been strongly applauded, which in many cases motivated the attention of passers-by.

The act has passed without notorious incidents with the partial exception of the resumption of works just at the time of reading the manifesto, which has led to the perception among the attendees that it was a deliberate action in order to impede their reading.
