The PSOE will watch the Plenary for the interests of the domestic workers in order to end their "employment discrimination" (24/05/2018)

Councilor Begoña García Retegui claims that "the social and institutional consensus" to annul "the important legal change" introduced by the PP and reduces the contribution bases of these workers below their salaries until the year 2024

Tomorrow, May 25, is the International Day of Domestic Employees, professionals who are not treated as they deserve and, before their helplessness, the Municipal Socialist Group will move to the House to be held next Thursday a motion urging the Government of Spain to "return to the social and institutional consensus" that allowed the integration of domestic workers in the General Scheme to be approved, leaving without effect the amendment that the Popular Party presented to the General Budgets and that supposed an "important legal change" "for these employees.

This is explained by the councilor of the PSOE Begoña García Retegui, who states that the PP "aims to keep the contribution bases of domestic workers below their salaries until the year 2024, when the law establishes 2018 as the last exercise with this system in vigor".

The domestic workers organized in the Turin Group denounce this maneuver that supposes "lengthening labor discrimination by five years" and that "it harms these professionals in their future pensions and in their contributory benefits, among other issues", as recounted by García Retegui.

Currently the contribution bases of domestic employees are in some cases below their salaries.

In 2012, the year 2019 was set as the year in which the contribution bases of the workers were adapted to the system of the General Scheme.

That is to say, that their employers will quote for the total monthly remuneration and that they take into account the minimum contribution bases established each year.

Now the PP aims to expand this system by installments in the contribution base until 2024. With this the Popular Party skips the consensus of social partners and political parties that allowed the approval of the integration of domestic workers in the General Scheme .

The amendment also modifies the future of permanent disability pensions derived from common contingencies and retirement.

This is one of the modifications with greater repercussion for the employees since it supposes an unjustifiable delay of access to some rights, as to the mechanisms of solidarity of the system to compensate gaps of contribution in pensions.

The PSOE, together with domestic workers and majority unions, understands that employers can be protected, with more information and bonuses to the contribution (that the State assumes part of the increase in contributions), without harming and withdraw rights to domestic employees .
