Now Murcia: "Ballesta returns to deceive the residents of La Paz" (23/05/2018)

This week, the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation has presented to the opposition groups the project of social intervention in the neighborhood of La Paz.

According to the councilor of Now Murcia Miguel Angel Alzamora "this project is typical of the political practices in social matters of the various governments of the Popular Party in the municipality of Murcia." It is a cluster of actions with very little impact on the lives of neighbors, without clear indicators on the results to be achieved and with a negligible economic investment ".

Now Murcia attended the last meeting held in the neighborhood to present the work that was already being done on the technical review of the buildings of the neighborhood: "There the councilors of the municipal government could hear the social demands of the neighborhood: very deteriorated housing and overcrowded, problems with the elderly alone and sick people living in very high floors without an elevator, very serious unemployment problems among young people and poor workers, early school dropout, among others, "says Alzamora.

According to Now Murcia, the "social project" presented is very weak, and it has an impact on leaving the serious situation suffered by a large part of the neighborhood's population in the same place where it has been all these years.

The project does not propose operational objectives that present measurable results and that may impact on people's lives.

"When you want to improve the lives of people in a neighborhood like La Paz, you have to project long, medium and short term, first, to achieve long-term social growth, so you have to start working in Serious with the children, so that they improve their school performance, it is not possible to continue with school reinforcement two or three days a week as it has been until now, and partially, it has to be every day and with measurable objectives ".

In the same way, "you have to program each year with the objective of achieving a specific number of quality and stable job insertions for young people and other populations affected by unemployment and high-pressure work." The problems of housing occupation, precarious housing and the intergenerational overcrowding must begin to address them with real policies of social housing in the municipality, today nonexistent. All supported with a serious and well planned aid systems. This are just some examples of what we have been repeating again and again from Now Murcia in the City Council, "says Alzamora.

"Today we have seen how a family that Social Services has attended after a month, for an emergency aid for a serious breakdown in the basic supplies of your home, have told you that if you can seek financing on the other hand until Help arrives in two or three months, "says the councilor, who recalls that Murcia now took to the Plenary Session of the City Council two years ago to reorganize and strengthen the Social Services of the City Council.

Councilman Alzamora recalls that "the neighborhood of La Paz is classified as a vulnerable neighborhood since 2001 by the Ministry of Development, considering it the neighborhood with the most serious housing problems, something that has been repeatedly denounced and nothing has been done."

For this reason, he affirms, "from Now Murcia we continue requesting to the municipal Government of the PP that takes seriously the social question of terrible conditions that suffer great part of the neighbors and the neighbors of La Paz, and plan social and housing policies in the municipality with the clear objective of reducing the inequalities that affect them and that are essential to maintain social cohesion in the municipality.
