The UMU holds a symposium on Psychology that will address Motivation and Emotion (23/05/2018)

Organized by the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Murcia, begins tomorrow, Thursday May 24, the XXXI Symposium of the Spanish Society of History of Psychology (SEHP) / X Symposium of the Association of Motivation and Emotion (AME).

The activity will take place between May 24 and 26 at the Paraninfo of the Campus de la Merced.

The inauguration will be at 10 in the morning and will be chaired by the Rector José Luján.

The inaugural conference will be at 11 in the morning, and will be in charge of Bruce Overmier, who will speak on "Origins of Learned Helplessness".

J. Bruce Overmier holds a PhD in Psychology of Learning from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, completed his postdoctoral research at Queen Mary College, University of London, on zoology and comparative physiology.

At the University of Pennsylvania he worked under the direction of Richard L. Solomon, in whose laboratory, Overmier was, perhaps, the first person to raise the concept of Learned Helplessness, to verify that the dogs with which he was experiencing responded in a way surprising before the stimuli of electroshock that they received.

Among many other areas of theoretical-experimental interest, Overmier's clinical-inspired research has focused on analyzing how learning conditions influence defensive behavior and stress, as well as the psychological factors that seem to be involved in the production and development of gastric ulcers.
