The City Council of Murcia helps 1,500 affected by the avalanche of land in Sierra Leone (22/05/2018)

Those affected by the avalanches that occurred in Freetown (Sierra Leone) due to the heavy rains in August of last 2017, and that received the help of the City of Murcia through the emergency project presented by Juan Ciudad ONG, have wanted to thank through a video recorded in the hospital of San Juan de Dios in that locality.

Thus, Br. Michael Koroma, director of the San Juan de Dios Hospital in Lunsar, on which the Health Center of the Hospitaller Order in Lungi (Freetown) depends, together with six of the people affected by the landslides as representatives of The whole community thanks "the help received by the City of Murcia, Spain, for a total amount of 15,000 euros, including essential goods.

"We thank for this show of gratitude and solidarity towards those who suffer", while "we deliver rice, palm oil, tomato or soup, all based on what we ask for, of our needs".

"I think everyone here today wants to thank once again our donor from Spain, the City of Murcia, his wonderful donation to the people of Sierra Leone, especially this small sample of people affected by the landslides," continues Br. Michael Koroma.

Brother Martin, superior of the Hospitaller Order in the Region of Murcia and representative of Juan Ciudad ONGD, accompanied by the president of the Jesus Abandoned Foundation, José Moreno, explains that "thanks to the help of the City of Murcia, about 430 people Directly, and more than 1,500 people indirectly, their situation has been relieved in the face of this catastrophe. "

The primary objective of this emergency action was to help the survivors of the avalanches through the direct supply of basic necessities to the people housed in temporary shelters and free care for children under 12 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.

The Jesus Abandoned Foundation hosts the headquarters of Juan Ciudad ONGD in the Region of Murcia, a non-governmental entity created by the Hospitaller Order of San Juan de Dios for actions in the social and health field, ranging from cooperation projects and humanitarian aid in situations of emergency, to international volunteering or awareness and education for development.
