The PSOE proposes that 50% of the names approved to be streets are for women (21/05/2018)

The Municipal Socialist Group has proposed today in the Street Commission that fifty percent of the names approved to name new avenues and roads of the municipality are women.

In this sense, the councilor Juan Vicente Larrosa explains that "it is about pushing all and in all directions to achieve a real and tangible equality between men and women, among other reasons because it is what society is claiming at the moment and It seems fair and reasonable. "

For Larrosa, "you just have to look at the street map of the municipality to see that the vast majority of names are outstanding men, but we have no doubt that historically there are outstanding women who have excelled and have been exemplary, so that are also worthy of being remembered in a street "and adds that" the few female names are related to religion. "

In this regard, the councilman, who participated this morning in the Street Commission, explains that they have submitted 25 names of men, 20 names of women and 62 generic names.

"This is a list that has already been approved by the municipal boards, so our proposal is precisely to ask the boards to look for names of neighboring artists, teachers, midwives, artists ... in order to achieve in a medium term a parity in the street. "

"We are sure that for lack of female names is not and that the fact that they do not arise also responds to this tradition dragged and perverse that women always appear in the background," says Larrosa, who recalls that in the same way that "our municipal group has claimed that budgets are designed with a gender perspective, we consider it logical that equality must be present in all municipal plans and projects."
