The PSOE accuses the PP of dismantling the centers of major by leaving almost no services to its users (18/05/2018)

The Socialist Municipal Group accuses the government team, the PP, of dismantling the centers for the elderly by leaving almost no services to users.

"We are witnessing a gradual and constant degradation of benefits that provide so many benefits to the elderly in the municipality," says councilor Maite Espinosa.

"A large part of the largest in our municipality receive minimum or non-contributory pensions, in a word, have an economic situation that has been declining either by the ridiculous rises of the same or pharmaceutical copayments, when they are in many cases, in addition, the support of their families. One of the advantages they have is the network of centers, where they manage their leisure and from which they paid attention in podiatry, hairdressing, gerontogimnasia and physiotherapy, services that every day are reduced more " , says Espinosa.

In this sense, he warns that the podiatry service has already been abolished and last year "we had to go out and denounce the attempt to also finish with the geronto-gymnastics, which was finally replaced, so all this denotes a clear commitment to leave the centers completely destitute, so that they will only be left for our elders to play the parchís ".

The councilor, who announces the presentation of a motion to the next plenary session, ensures that, in this case, "the PP should make a greater effort to maintain and develop the activities offered by the centers for the elderly and not always be with the threat of suppression of services ".

For all this, Espinosa states that "not only do they lack the necessary attention, but we also lose the opportunity to have active and exemplary centers that, of course, our elders deserve at a stage where they can enjoy many activities and of a good quality of life ".

Likewise, he adds that "if the City Council is not there to safeguard, attend to and protect its citizens, there is little use for flowers in the gardens or for complacent photos, nor for the sale of macro projects that do not cover the basic needs of the residents of the city. municipality".
