Let's change Murcia denounces the abandonment of the PP in the hiring of the Respiro Familiar service (18/05/2018)

The councilor of Cambiemos Murcia, Margarita Guerrero, has denounced today that the municipal service of Respiro Familiar en Domicilios, which is in charge of providing support to families that usually care for dependents, replacing them in care, has been interrupted since last 14 of May, what supposes, in his opinion, "a new sample of abandonment of functions on the part of the PP".

In a press conference, Guerrero explained that on that date, the City Council's contract with the company that managed the service expired and that, since then, the users, belonging to a social spectrum "especially sensitive" when dealing with families with people in situation of dependency, they are not receiving this support from the Consistory.

The mayor has indicated that although the file has been started for the preparation of the new contract specifications, the service may be interrupted for about two months until the completion of the procedures.

"We do not understand the reason why the municipal government has not implemented an extension or a bridge contract and has preferred that this service is not carried out for weeks," he added.

The Respiro Familiar includes from the active company, the accompaniment to walks and aid for displacements, to tasks of cleaning and administration of oral medication and food, among others, of the dependents by qualified professionals, and is provided with a maximum duration of 16 hours a month, eight consecutive hours, between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m.

The City Council approved in the regular plenary of July 2017 the Ordinance that regulates the service, allowing to expand the possibility of accessing it throughout the year, which meant that the beneficiaries did not have to stick to a certain period, as it happened until then .

At that time, the number of users amounted to 70, although this number "has surely increased".

Murcia change has considered that the municipal government should have anticipated this situation and its consequences and, in this sense, has claimed through an internal communication addressed to the responsible of Social Rights, Concepción Ruiz, to look for viable alternatives to prevent the service continue to stop borrowing, as, for example, through credit recognition.

"Although we are late, there are solutions." The City Council has qualified teams to look for an alternative that addresses this situation of limbo in which the families that have been beneficiaries are now, "said Guerrero, after demanding the Popular Party the" highest priority "to solve this problem that affects one of the most sensitive groups.
