The director of the National Dance Company, who has signed the agreement with the president of the University, José Luis Mendoza, stressed that "it is great news that this unique" degree that is taught in Spain "has emerged in the Region of Murcia"

The National Dance Company and the Catholic University of Murcia strengthen ties through the Degree in Dance that this course (2017/18) has been launched and that is the only one taught in Spain.

José Carlos Martínez, director of the company, and José Luis Mendoza, president of the UCAM, have signed a collaboration agreement that opens the doors to UCAM students to carry out internships at the company.

José Carlos Martínez, from Cartagena, highlighted the importance of a University having taken the step of imparting this degree: "I love that this has happened in the Murcia Region, it is an honor to be part of the evolution of these young people and to contribute my granite of sand in the practical part with some master class and invite them to the Company so they can see how we work ".

Although the opportunities in the world of dance in Spain do not abound, the director of the National Company believes that this university education can make a difference: "In our country, the dance environment is complicated because there are few professional companies. They will go to teaching, but I think it is very important to be in the professional part, even if it is only briefly, I want to guide them in that sense, to be a good dance teacher you have to live it in your own body ".

Therefore, the practices that will be carried out with the professionals of the National Company can be an extraordinary starting point for the students of the Degree in Dance: "They will be in the warm-up class and work preparation, where they can take part actively and then they will see all the rehearsals of the company or they will learn from the choreographer who is at that moment assembling a choreography or working a repertoire, they will see and live how they work within a national company ".

Mariló Molina, vice-dean of the Degree in Dance, transmitted the sensations of his students: "They are enthusiastic, there is no better person than José Carlos Martínez to sponsor our first promotion, taking into account that he is from Cartagena. Region can go out to do great things ".

After the signing of the agreement, José Carlos Martínez has met the students of the Degree in Dance.

With them he has had a small talk to let them know some details about these practices that may be done in the future depending on the interests of each one and have commented some aspects about the current situation of the professional world and the possibilities they will have in the future after finish the race.
