The University of Murcia promotes with a master's degree and awards the research in good governance and transparency (11/05/2018)

The University of Murcia presented on Friday the call for the Awards for Citizen Participation, Transparency and Good Government of the Region of Murcia and the 2nd edition of the Master in Applied Political Analysis;

two actions aimed at promoting study and research in a field that is increasingly a challenge and a major objective for those responsible for public administrations.

The event was chaired by the rector of the University, José Luján, and was attended by the counselor of Transparency, Participation and Speaker Noelia Arroyo.

The awards, organized by the Autonomous Community, are intended to reward research work in the field of good governance of graduates and doctors with degrees in the universities of the Region of Murcia and for those graduates Murcia who study in other universities, both Spanish and abroad.

The deadline to submit the works ends next July 31.

Noelia Arroyo stressed that the intention behind this initiative "is to recognize and implement proposals to advance and improve every day in the exercise of a subject that changes so fast, at breakneck speed".

Arroyo believes it is fundamental to take advantage of the talent behind the work of professionals at the University of Murcia and "to benefit from excellence and quality so that administrations continue to grow in good governance, participation and transparency".

For his part, the rector of the University of Murcia has highlighted the multiple challenges facing public administrations and governments "in a complex society in which the power centers are blurred" and in which "the institutions are forced to be receptive and ensure that citizens feel responsible for the decisions made by the rulers. "

The result of these social demands was the Master's Degree in Applied Political Analysis.

Professor Cristina Moreno Martínez, secretary of the department of Political Science at the UMU, explained during the presentation that these postgraduate studies revolve around the concepts of integrity, public ethics, crisis management, conflict resolution, good governance ... and that respond to the need "to train leaders and experts" committed to transparency and citizen participation.

One of the motivations for developing this study program is the growing disaffection and distancing between public and represented representatives.

Those who enroll in the master can choose between two itineraries: Political communication and governance and transparency.

The rector of the University has been congratulated for the development of both initiatives because they show the interest of different institutions in collaborating to continue advancing in public management and bring it closer to the citizen.

In this regard, he thanked the attendance at the ceremony of Enrique Ujaldón Benítez, Secretary General of the Ministry of Transparency;

José Antonio Cobacho Gómez, Secretary Secretary of the Transparency Council of the Region of Murcia and former Director of the University of Murcia;

José Antonio Cascales Saseta, manager of the UMU;

Santiago Álvarez Carreño, member of the Transparency Council;

and Joaquín Longinos Marín, director of the Chair of CSR of the University of Murcia.
