Addictions and drug consumption will be the protagonists next May 16 at 6:00 pm in a new session of the cinema 'Science on the big screen' organized by the University of Murcia in Café de Ficciones.
On this occasion, Réquiem for a dream will be screened, a film in which both protagonists (Harry and her mother) have very different dreams: she is permanently on a diet waiting for the day when she can participate in her favorite television contest;
the ambition of Harry and his girlfriend Marion is to get rich selling drugs and use the profits to open a business of their own, but never have enough money for it.
In spite of everything, Harry and Marion do not resign themselves and will do the unimaginable thing to obtain the life that they crave.
After the film, María Falcón Romero and Aurelio Luna Maldonado, experts in Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, will briefly comment on the main concepts presented in the film.
In a more general context, they will describe the main characteristics of the different substances of abuse and the effects of their consumption in the short and long term.
On the other hand, they will explain the risk and protection factors, explaining the transition from consumption to dependence from the neurobiology of addiction.
This initiative of the Unit of Scientific Culture (UCC) of the Vice-rectorate of Communication and Culture of the UMU aims to bring the scientific culture to society, with the collaboration of researchers from the University of Murcia.
