Erasmus coordinators from 50 countries meet this week at the University of Murcia (08/05/2018)

The University of Murcia hosts from May 8 to 11 at the La Merced Campus the ERACON 2018 Congress of the European Association of Erasmus Coordinators (EAEC), with around 350 participants from more than 50 countries, and which will have special activities on Thursday 10 for the celebration of Europe Day.

The EAEC is a European network founded in 2004 that currently has more than 80 members.

Its objectives are to promote the mobility of students and staff of higher education institutions, facilitate training for Erasmus + program coordinators, participation and preparation of European projects, conduct studies and surveys on higher education, develop publications of interest to members, among others.

From the constitution of the association it was decided the annual celebration of a congress, in a different European city in each occasion.

The 14th edition of ERACON takes place for the first time in Spain, with the University of Murcia as its headquarters.

During the 4 days of the conference, some 80 sessions and training workshops will be held to discuss topics related to the internationalization of higher education.

Student fair in La Merced

In the framework of the actions scheduled for this congress and coinciding with the celebrations of the Day of Europe, on Thursday, May 10 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the courtyard of the Campus of Mercy an International Fair will be held with the participation of professors and students of the UMU, together with representatives of 50 foreign universities.

In addition, a live radio program will be broadcast on-site, directed by ROM Radio and coordinated by the 'Europe Direct' Office in Murcia, and a series of activities will be held for students of both Secondary and University, where they will be able to Obtain gifts for participation in different contests.

The Inaugural Act will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday 9 at the Romea Theater and will be chaired by the President of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras;

the Mayor of Murcia, José Ballesta;

the President of the EAEC, Gregoris A. Makrides;

the Director of the Higher Education Unit of the SEPIE (Spanish Service for the Internationalization of Education), José Manuel González Canino;

and the Rector of the University of Murcia, José Luján Alcaraz, among others.

After the official ceremony will take place the welcome of the University of Murcia to the participants with a cocktail and flamenco show in the courtyard of the Campus of La Merced.
