The Governing Board of the City of Murcia has given the green light to the extension of the collaboration agreement with the Association of Families and People with Mental Illness (AFES) to develop the program 'Social educator for the mentally ill' allocating an amount of 4,500 euros, through the Department of Sports and Health directed by Felipe Coello.
It is necessary to remember that this program allows to increase the quality of life, the autonomy and the capacity of social handling of the users of the center with ages between the 16 and 65 years.
"The objective of the agreement is to carry out activities aimed at the interaction and social reinsertion of these people affected by a chronic mental illness, through the intervention of a specialized social educator that facilitates autonomy, social management capacity and quality of life. life of these people, "Felipe Coello recalled.
Currently the association has a Day Center, which has 75 daily users, and was built on a plot that gave the City of Murcia.
The site, located in Santiago and Zaraíche, has an area of ​​247 square meters and its economic value amounts to almost 942,000 euros.
It is a building with a height of five floors and basement, which houses the dining room and the rest room.
On the ground floor there is the reception and works exhibition hall;
psychology rooms, social work nursing and library in the first;
while in the remaining three are located the auditorium and computer room, workshops (looms, pottery, autonomy, painting and binding) and rooms for motor skills and gymnastics.
