The campaign of risk prevention for the homeless due to low temperatures promoted by the Department of Social Rights and Development Cooperation, known as 'Cold Operation', has ended the night outings of the period 2017/2018.
In total, and since last November, the staff of SEMAS (Mobile Emergency Service and Social Care) has attended 114 people (98 men and 16 women) of which the main nationalities have been Spain with 52 people served, Morocco with 24, Bulgaria with 10 and France, Romania, Mali and Senegal with 6 people respectively.
"This service has been developed by establishing personal contact with those served, studying their situation and generating a link that facilitates the process of intervention and social inclusion of these people who live in a situation of exclusion", explained the councilor responsible, Conchita Ruiz .
In each of the assistance has provided information and guidance on the municipal resources that these people have at their disposal, in addition to delivery of 35 sleeping bags, 35 blankets, 32 drinks-hot foods.
To this we add 4 transfers to accommodation of Fundación Jesús Abandonado and Fundación RAIS.
In all these actions it has counted on the collaboration of the Local Police of Murcia.
In addition to the nocturnal outings, from the SEMAS, they have been distributed in the morning and additionally (at the request mainly of the Municipal Services of Attention to Passers-by and Immigrants), another 45 sleeping bags and 32 more blankets.
"The City Council gives immediate attention to the most vulnerable throughout the year, but we reinforce this work with special campaigns when the temperature is extreme, either by the cold, as it has occurred in the winter months, or by the increase in temperatures, as it will begin to be carried out in the coming weeks ", concluded Conchita Ruiz.
