Doctoral thesis studies the quality of life of patients with burning mouth syndrome (02/06/2010)

A doctoral thesis at the University of Murcia has studied the psychological profile and quality of life in patients with the disease of burning mouth syndrome (BMS), differentiating between those concerned with burning tongue.

The SBA is a burning sensation in the oral mucosa of unknown etiology, whose involvement is found more frequently in the language, which occurs mostly in advanced middle age women (postmenopausal).

In its chronic nature and high prevalence, we used a variety of treatments to relieve the SBA.

The author of the thesis, Maria de la Paz Andújar, has noted a considerable improvement of the burning sensation in patients who have used a splint lingual coating.

In reaching this conclusion, Andújar Lady of Peace has conducted a prospective study involving 100 people, from which it appears that patients with BMS and lingual involvement show higher levels of anxiety and poorer quality of life for oral and general patients with BMS and generalized disease.

Professors Fabio Maria Pia Lopez and Camacho have been responsible for the supervision of the thesis.
