Spanish Sustainable City decided in Murcia (21/05/2010)

The trajectory of Murcia as a sustainable city is adding national and international recognition.

The last major event has been accompanied by UN Habitat Programme in Spain which has selected the Strategy to Combat Climate Change 2008-2012 in the notice of VIII Award for Best Practice 2010.

This is an initiative to identify urban policies and actions that have been shown to be effective - from sustainability criteria - to improve living conditions in cities and towns.

The event aims to strengthen the awareness of society and policies aimed at improving the living conditions of citizens from the perspective of sustainable development, according to the criteria set out in the Second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II .)

Since 2006, the Dubai International Award has 12 categories, 10 of them for Best Practices and 2 for Transfer of Best Practices.

Strategy to Fight Climate Change 2008-2012 has been selected by the Habitat Committee and 36 other Spanish, of 63 Best Practices for improvement of living conditions.

In June, the candidates know Spanish to be among the finalists from all over the world to be selected in October.

The prestige gained by the Sustainable City Awards Committee made the Spanish Habitat municipalities invite winners in the last two calls-San Sebastian in 2008 and Murcia in 2009 - to present the Award for Best Practice of United Nations.

The act of awards will take place in October in Madrid.

These awards are given annually, recognize the efforts of the Spanish municipalities of over 5,000 sustainable development which have been successfully implemented actions aimed at sustainability in a period of 2 years and with evidence of the existence of a commitment sustainable political development.

The Environmental Forum Foundation is a nonprofit entity whose main objective is to create a platform for dialogue and collaboration between business, government and the rest of society to get together and implement a sustainable development model that the present .
