All phases of Maternal and Child Hospital complex will be completed after summer 2012
The Minister of Health, María Ángeles Palacios, today visited the new technical building Maternal and Child Hospital, part of the Hospital Universitario Virgen de la Arrixaca, in which his Department has spent more than nine million euros.
The technical building, included in the first phase of the new Maternal and Child Hospital, has been operational since last summer.
The entire complex, which consists of three phases will be completed in just over two years ago, if there are no complications.
This new building, which will host around 600 professionals, has an area of 17,000 square meters and houses a definitive surgical block, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Unit, the Ambulatory Surgery Unit of Child and cafeterias staff and public.
Have also been installed, albeit provisional while advancing works, pediatric inpatient School, Infants, Children Surgery, Children's Oncology Unit Isolated, Children's Cancer Hospital, Pediatric Emergency and hospital wards.
The new Maternal and Child Hospital is a major project and is a total financial investment amounting to 61 million euros.
Furthermore, it is a very complex because their implementation must respect fully the welfare activities and reform the existing structures with more than 20 years.
The project has four phases and when completed will be a series of innovations over the old building in areas such as accompanying family members and the Emergency Child and Neonatal Area or hospital wards, among others.
Among the actions to be developed include the creation of a Day Hospital Gynecology and Obstetrics, increasing hospital capacity in the Nursery area, which may reach up to 236 beds, expanding the surface of the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Genetics Clinic and the number of operating rooms.
More than 61,000 emergency department during the past year
The Maternal and Child Hospital is the reference Arrixaca specialized care for areas I, VI, VII and IX, as well as throughout the Region in certain pediatric subspecialties.
In addition, it meets in Gynecology to areas I, VI and IX and Obstetrics in the areas I, VI, VII and IX.
A total of 1,100 workers who provide services in the Maternal and Child Hospital in 2009, a total of 61,394 emergency, which means an average of 168 a day.
It also conducted 5,731 operations and the number of births rose to 8,230, about 23 a day.
