The new units are opened to the public with the exhibition 'Sculpture', artist Ramon Garza Murcia
El Museo de Bellas Artes de Murcia (Mubam) has increased the display area of the center at 555 square meters with the construction of a new annexe to the existing contrast Pavilion, which opens to the public today with the opening of the exhibition 'Sculpture' , artist Ramon Garza Murcia.
The president of the Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today inaugurated the exhibition of Garza and toured the new rooms of the exhibition space, improving cultural facilities in the city of Murcia.
The expansion project, designed by architect Juan de Dios de Hoz with a budget of 1,063,931 euros, has incorporated the remains of the medieval wall, which after the excavation and maintenance work have been integrated into the new building.
The expansion includes two temporary exhibition halls with a total of 300 square meters and an auditorium with capacity for 84 people.
It has also increased the space for specialized library and archive, and has improved the area of administration and management.
These works of construction of new spaces and refurbishment of others in the Pavilion contrast, binds the adaptation and restoration of important assets as the north and west facades of the late Hall of Contrast Silk remains the only two that survive from that civil building of the seventeenth century and the Arab antemuralla that protected the city from its eastern flank, close to Puerta de Orihuela, which notes how was Murcia defense system until the twelfth century.
This new extension is carried out after 1977, when he built the Pavilion called contrast, and improvements made in 2005.
'Sculpture' by Ramon Garza
The new rooms of Mubam are released with an exhibition of sculptures by Ramon Garza (Murcia, 1948), an artist who since his first exhibition in 1969, has offered periodically his paintings and sculpture.
There are 35 pieces in bronze and steel to be displayed in the exhibition spaces contrast Pavilion until 29 August.
