The UPCT presents the latest research in SICARM (12/05/2010)

The School of Telecommunications Engineering of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena and research groups working in it will be at SICARM, booth installed on Avenida Alfonso X the Wise of Murciaa morning from Thursday until Sunday 16 May.

The group of Electromagnetics and Telecommunications show the results obtained to date on how to improve the design of RF components to board communications satellites.

This work is being done in collaboration with the European Space Agency.

Also present findings on smart antennas.

A smart antenna can be used in many different scenarios.

For example, the figure shows an antenna that acts as RADAR aboard a car, to detect obstacles and avoid collisions.

Another application is the treatment of cancer by hyperthermia.

In this case, the electromagnetic waves must be focused on the tumor without damaging healthy organs.

The group of Signal Processing Theory and present their results in image processing for improved radiation therapy, and image processing for audiovisual services.

The latter field has been used in popular applications such as editing video clips (such as "Black or White" by Michael Jackson) and reducing the number of images required in animated films or special effects.

Telematics Engineering Group will present a monitoring system, recognition and characterization of human patterns and anomalies.

With the growing momentum of the ICT sector in health care, the creation of systems that help increase the capacity of care for dependent people respond to social needs present and future perspective, improving the quality of life of older people who up each year a larger sector of society.

Thus, reading facial features and characteristics attached to the classification of patterns of behavior is and will be a focal point in the research sector, as the correct interpretation of the broad range of expressions from a person not only provides information about of his state but also in the future should be the key to man-machine interaction.

Systems Division and Electronic Engineering citizens closer to the latest developments in robotics.

Specifically, the Robonova-1 humanoid robot Robot Robonova-1 is an ideal low-cost robot to introduce undergraduate and graduate students in robotics, which require no special knowledge of computer programming or to start using it.

The Robonova-1 has 16 degrees of freedom to move and has expansion ports to add various types of sensors: distance, proximity, slope, etc..

The group of Microwave Engineering, Electromagnetics and Radio show in practical operation of a Joint Infrastructure Telecommunication (ICT).

Electronic Design Group and Signal Processing Techniques and Devices Group and Micro-Electronic Design presented their latest results in electronic EMCCD sensor control and image processing.

For its part, the group will SICOM RadioEarth tool, an application that calculates the coverage of next-generation telephony built on Google Maps.

Furthermore, the school will provide information about its facilities and degree programs offered, including information on new curricula adapted to the European Higher Education Area.

In particular, the academic offerings in telecommunications includes two degrees: Bachelor Degree in Engineering Telematics and Telecommunication Systems, and a Master Research ICT (Information and Communications) with Quality Mention of the Ministry.
