The President of the Autonomous Community, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, today inaugurated the new home for the elderly 'Bishop Javier Azagra' in the hamlet of El Palmar Murcia, with 130 users, and has involved a total investment of more than 11 million euros (11,668,671).

Valcárcel, accompanied by the Minister for Social Policy, Joaquín Bascuñana, toured the new facilities of this center, which increases the number of public residential places in the region to a total of 2,126.

Following the opening of this center, the president said that "the regional government meets the objective of improving social policies and offer the best services to those most in need in all municipalities in the region."

Valcárcel stressed "the quality of services offered to users of these residences," not only by new infrastructure, but "specialized care for all staff working there."

The building, built on a plot of 11,302 meters square, is distributed over four floors.

In the basement are the laundry units, kitchen, staff changing rooms, stores and machinery, and on the ground floor access from the street, the lobby, the parlor room, occupational therapy, physiotherapy room, pharmacy, chapel, hair salon, offices for technicians and nursing home.

In the first and second floor are 60 double rooms, 30 per plant, plus 10 single rooms, plus separate dining areas and special rooms for medical and nursing.

The center offers comprehensive care and permanent housing for the elderly residents to improve their quality of life as well as integration and personal autonomy.

The construction of this new home of El Palmar, explained the President, responds to the need to adapt the facilities to the real needs of residents and to ensure, as is being done, the application of the law of dependence in the Region .

A new center has been moved people who occupied the former residence of Espinardo, whose offices were badly damaged, and expand by 17 the number of existing seats.

In this way, said the chief executive of Murcia, ensures that all dependents applying for residential service and day service placement, they can secure a place.

Dependency Law

Some 22,000 citizens of the region are as direct beneficiaries of aid and benefits of funds of dependency, a figure that exceeds the national average.

The perceived benefits this group are mostly related to his stay in homes as the one opened today, as well as day care centers and help in the family.
